As my last visit was to the West Coast this time I had the opportunity to visit the East Coast.
In 9 days our tour included 6 major cities and their attractions these included Toronto, Niagara Falls, Ottawa, Montebello, Quebec City and Montreal.

Toronto Canada’s largest city stay at The Fairmont Royal York Hotel a landmark in Toronto, first opened in 1929 it was the tallest in the British Commonwealth. When you visit the CN Tower you will ascent 346m to the top, it maintains its coveted title and features in the ‘2010 Book of Guinness World Records’ as the world’s tallest tower. Visit the hockey hall of fame and even attend an ice hockey match!

Niagara Falls was an unforgettable experience! The Falls are composed of two major sections separated by Goat Island; Horseshoe Falls, the majority of which lies on the Canadian side of the boarder and the American Falls on the American side. Board the Maid of the Mist dress up in blue ponchos as this cruise takes you right below the falls to feel the spray of the falls. Niagara also has Canada’s largest observation wheel, the Niagara Sky Wheel towering 53m, allows you to observe the falls from a different perspective. Walking up town you can begin to call Niagara falls a mini Vegas, the street is filled with flashing lights, rides, bars, café’s, bowling alley, casino’s and more! The Hilton Niagara Falls is a stunning property, the apartments are huge and there is nothing better than a view of the falls from the bedroom window.

A stop at Montebello is a must and you need to explore Parc Omega, a 1500 acre park where native wildlife such as Black Bears, Buffalo, Deer, Moose, Bison, Wolfs and many more live in their natural habitat. Pile into an old school bus and hand out carrots to feed some of the animals. Montebello Fairmont Le Chateau is a unique red cedar log Fairmont on the shores of the Ottawa River, the lodge is very homey and relaxing with fireplaces centered throughout the reception.

On the way to Quebec City we stopped to sample traditional Quebecois fare at a local Sugar Shack, the delicacies of the regions Maple Syrup. Quebec is a beautiful city it’s the only walled city in North America and an important UNESCO world Heritage Listed site. Enjoy a Scenic Free Chose activity such as a horse and carriage ride it’s beautiful to sit and take in the sceneries while being guided through the streets.

In Montreal we enjoyed a local tour including viewing the Olympic Complex, St Joseph’s Oratory, views of the city from the parklands of Mt Royale and of my favorite stops on the tour visiting the exquisite Notre-Dame Basilica. This church has an imposing Gothic Revival architecture and once you walk through the doors it is just mind blowing, this is also were Celine Dion was married! The Queen Elizabeth Fairmont’s location is in perfect position to the shopping streets and even access right above the underground station.

I had a wonderful time with Scenic Tours, I had the opportunity to make some great new friends as well as learn and experience the ins and outs of the East Coast of Canada. Yes definitely the East Coast is very different to the West Coast however it is a must to go visit and experience a different side of the country!

Italy with Ida and Insight Vacations

The Ultimate Italian Experience with Ida

Italy has so much to offer the traveller, its piazza's - every town has one,

its amazing restaurants, coffee shops, artisans, atmosphere, culture, it

almost seems that you can hear Dean Martin sing :That's Amore" from the

moment you arrive. Each time I have visited this amazing country, I seem to

have a different experience and seem to appreciate it even more, this time,

I was lucky to share it with an amazing group of friends.

Every day we encountered different experiences as we visited various cities,

villages and regions. I would have to say that on this particular trip Rome

was definitely my highlight, it seems that no matter how many times you

travel to this city you will still experience the surreal feeling as you

enter the colosseum, so old, yet so well preserved.

Rome would have to rate in my top 10 cities of the world and although it has

some crazy drivers, it’s what makes the cities character. When in Rome its

almost as though you can hear it sing to you, as you walk through its

cobbled streets that are lined with grand architecture and exquisite stores.

Over the 3 weeks we experienced a truly typical Italian lifestyle; the

quaint villages, fine cuisine, impeccable wine, but more importantly we were

always in awe of its history and the distinctly different regions, all

unique in their own right. As we made our way through Italy we were able to

capture the beauty of such regions as Tuscany, Perugia, Amalfi and the

Italian Lakes Region.

I loved everything about Italy, the Baci chocolates, the Gelati ice-cream,

espresso coffees, the prosciutto, the pasta, the buffalo mozzarella cheese,

oh and of course the Milanese, combine all this with a magnificent group of

people and I could not have asked for a better holiday. To find out more

about travelling to Italy or any other country, contact our travel experts

in either Mareeba or Atherton and I know they will be able to create an

itinerary that will suit your budget and needs. It’s breathe taking views of the ocean was the perfect way to start our adventure. From here we travelled north through the Cederberg range full with farms. Although the wildflowers were not in full bloom we were still able to witness the ray of colours. Crossing into Namibia our first visited was to the Fish River Canyon, as the sun set we watched the canyon walls change colours. From here we descended into the Nambi-Naukluft National Park were we visited the most spectacular and breathtaking desert scenery, the great sand dunes, which blaze orange and ascend 300 meters above the desert floor. Inside we visited the salt and white clay pan of Deadvlei and Sossusvlei. We headed northwest towards the Atlantic Ocean coastline to Swakopmund, the adventure city of Namibia. There are many optional tours available from here, some decided on the cultural tour while others did the Seal and Dolphin Tour. I took the opportunity to skydive over the Ocean and Dune, exhilarating! We headed north deeper into the Damaraland, with a stop and visit to the Himba people. They are semi-nomadic and are unique in that, they have rejected modern ways in favour of traditional beliefs and methods. The women have elaborately plaited hair and incredibly smooth skin.

And of course no visit to Africa is complete without viewing wildlife. We spent the second half of our trip in search of animals. We visited Etosha National Park where we commenced our game drives.

I learnt so much about African animals, which was definitely one of my highlights. We saw Zebras, Giraffes, Warthog, Elephants, Rhinos, Lions and much more. There was so much wildlife, some I had never heard of before. One of my favourite moments was when a lion walked past our vehicle; he was big, beautiful and strong. Another typical day at sunset, a herd of 40 elephants walk directly toward our truck then split and walked around us, the feeling was indescribable.

After these amazing experiences we entered Botswana and travelled through to the Okavango Delta, such a contrast to the scenery we had been travelling through, lush and green. The delta boasts an array of birds. We had the opportunity to travel the waterways in a Mokoro, a traditional dung out canoe. We spent the night on a houseboat in the middle of the Okavango River. We re-entered Namibia and travelled east to Chobe National Park, we enjoyed a cruise on the Chobe River, where we watched the hippos and the crocodiles lining the banks taking in the sun rays. We saw so many animals again, so impressive.

That night we spent inside the Park, the suspense of wondering how close the animals would get while we slept, was so exciting. Our trip was nearly at an end with our last stop in Livingstone, we spent the afternoon at the magnificent Victoria Falls, one of the natural wonders of the world.

There were so many moments throughout the trip that I just explain can’t explain and as I think back I will always remember it as one of the most memorable journeys and the memories will stay with me forever.

Hamilton Island perfect Easter getaway!

Eggstra great value at Hamilton Island this Easter. Being stranded in a foreign land, miles away from home, with no access to money is a frightening and potentially hazardous situation.

There are several ways to guard against this including carrying a “mixed wallet” which means having a variety of ways to access funds such as prepaid travel cards, credit cards, cash and in some areas, even travellers cheques.

All of these forms of travel money are easy to get from a variety of providers but travellers need to be aware of the pitfalls before they leave and not when trouble strikes.

Prepaid travel cards are a great way to carry small or large sums of money overseas as they are prepaid so you don’t overspend, available in a variety of currencies to avoid exchange rate fees and fluctuations, generally not linked to bank accounts to avoid fraudulent access to your daily transactional account and savings and they are reloadable.

There are a number of prepaid travel card providers in Australia offering many similar benefits for normal day to day use. When it comes to unexpected yet common emergency situations, this is where the cards become very different to each other. The Travelex Cash Passport has some unique benefits that can help you out if you run into troubles on your trip.

With some of the other prepaid travel cards, in the event that you lose your cards and need emergency cash, you need to apply for emergency funds and pay an emergency cash advance fee of up to US$95.

In addition, if you need replacement cards to access cash and make purchases during the rest of your trip, some prepaid travel card providers charge a card replacement fee of up to AU$60 and often will only send the cards to your registered address in Australia.

The Travelex Cash Passport works very differently. Travelex created the concept of prepaid travel money card and as the world’s largest specialist foreign exchange company, have a wealth of experience and knowledge in what travellers need.

As a result, should you lose your Cash Passport cards you can call their toll free 24/7 Global Emergency Assistance centre and get emergency cash within 20 minutes (this may take up to 24 hours for remote locations). As part of the prize, I enjoyed a fabulous 3 night educational to the Australian Open and the beautiful Mornington Peninsula.
Upon arrival in Melbourne the city was buzzing, our group met in reception and we were taken to Madame Brussels for pre-theatre drinks and nibbles, before arriving at the Princess Theatre to watch the smash-hit musical Hairspray! This musical with its elaborate sets, amazing costumes and upbeat music was absolutely fabulous and my eyes were glued to the stage for the entire show!
The next morning we headed to the Mornington Peninsula, while stopping at Sunny Ridge Strawberry Farm for strawberry picking and homemade ice cream.
We had lunch at Montalto Vineyard and Olive Grove and then checked in to our accommodation at Lindenderry at Red Hill. The highlight of my trip was our morning at the Peninsula Hot Springs, where we were treated to a bath in the mineral springs and a spa treatment.
After our relaxing and rejuvenating morning we headed back to Melbourne. That afternoon we experienced The Langham’s signature Chocolate Indulgence afternoon tea before making our way to the home of the Australian Open; the Rod Laver Arena. I had a fantastic night watching the opening of the grand slam, the atmosphere was electric! We watched 2 matches that evening with the first involving Australia’s Jarmilla GROTH. The next day we attended the Australian Centre for the Moving Image as they hosted a Disney Classic Fairy Tales exhibition, we enjoyed a farewell lunch at St Peter’s Restaurant before catching our transfer to the airport.

It is amazing what you can fit in on a 3 night getaway and we can put together this itinerary for you to this Amazing Australian city. What a wonderful phrase Hakuna Matata! Ain't no passing craze It means no worries for the rest of your days, It's our problem-free, philosophy Hakuna Matata!

I just love that song, just like I loved the animated movie 'The Lion King' and where Disney set the scene, a place where you feel the WOW factor; the African continent and where I spent three weeks with fourteen amazing people, in four of the most amazing countries.

It was my second visit to Botswana and Zambia and as I reflect, I realise why you just become addicted to some places and you want to go back again and again!

My soul can still feel the beat of the drums, the warmth and friendship from the Masai people as they sing and dance in front of me, the open plains of Kenya, the water deltas in Botswana, the rift valley and open craters of Tanzania, the picturesque Victoria falls in Zambia and all of them boasting to have some of the most incredible species of wild animals you could ever imagine, no photo or camera can capture the true spirit of these amazing places, until you become a part of it.

Five star camping is definitely my style and even though I love the outdoors, I have never, ever been a camper and the thought of taking a holiday in a tent is definitely not on my "to do" list, unless however it is done African style and I can guarantee I would be there every weekend!

Each country and area we visited were different and the landscape gave us an indication on just how diverse and unique each country is. So many highlights; crocodile eating a very large catfish, Lioness preparing for a kill, a cheetah in the Delta; it was our last day and no cats had been seen for over 6 months due to the flooding, the Leopard stalking the Zebras, the hippos outside our room while in the Delta, two male Lions standing and stretching and heading directly to our vehicle, an elephant in the Delta glaring and stamping his feet at our vehicle for separating him from his family, oh and not forgetting an elephant taking a shower in the Zambesi river as I am looking out from my massage table as the sun sets, it just cant get any better than that!.

I won't mention other highlights, otherwise this blog will go on and on, however I will share with you what a typical day on Safari generally consists of.

Each country allowed us to travel in different vehicles, which I enjoyed and each vehicle was best suited for the conditions of that particular area, I must admit I was pretty impressed that we only had one flat tyre and it wasn't while we were on safari!
We always went on 2 x 2 hour game drives every day whilst staying on camp; one in the morning and the other in the afternoon, as these are the best times for game viewing.
Each drive is different and at each one you will experience moments that will stay embedded in your memory forever and that I can guarantee!.

After watching so many documentaries on the National Geographic channel that generally take years to capture on film, rest assured you will experience some of these even if on safari for a short span of time.

I learnt so much more about the individual big 5 and the thousand of different species of birds and so many other animals, some that I had never even heard of, yes it was truly amazing!
I often get asked so what is your favourite animal ? of course I love "Pumba" who plays the warthog in the Lion King, the cats - Lions, Leopards, cheetahs, oh and the Zebra's, Elephants, Rhinos and not forgetting the sleek and sexy Giraffe's, you just have to see the Waterbuck, oh and the Impalas! Okay I guess my answer is: "love them all" even the crocodiles look good in Africa!

If you are considering traveling to Africa it is so important to pick the right time to visit the country you are most interested in, if you are taking in more than one I suggest you go shoulder season, also costs are better than in the high season, which is Winter!

I had a truly incredible journey with 14 amazing people and I thank them for being a part of it. What I love the most about taking groups away is you go away with friends and/or strangers and you come back as family and it is that bonding of a group that makes you appreciate the destination even more.
When am I heading back you ask? September 2012, so if you are interested in coming just send me a quick email, if you just cant wait check out our Delta Dunes safari that leaves in September 2011.

I am now planning my next trip for 2011, I am returning to Israel and Jordan with the option for you to extend and go to Egypt. I have created an exceptional tour with a company that comes with my highest recommendation. I look forward to hearing from you.
I have attached some of my favourite shots which I hope will make you feel and appreciate my recent journey to the African Continent! Love you all.....................cheers Ida

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_zUNYrLZBnhE/TN-qOQQuweI/AAAAAAAAAEE/w-oGORqWZ2c/s1600/zambesi+massage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em;

Geographically, Machu Picchu is located partly in the Andes and partly in the Amazon rainforest. The perculiar emplacement of the citadel is characterized by tropical vegetation. This type of ecosystem is the habitat of unique species of flora and fauna, some of them threatened with extinction.

In order to complete the Inca Trail, you need to have a reasonable level of fitness, age shouldn't be an obstacle. It is essential to be well acclimatized to the altitude. The maximum height above sea level along the way is 13779 feet above sea level (4200 masl). If travelling from sea level it is reccommended to spend at least 2 days in Cusco before attempting the trek. Visiting the city of Cusco, the ruins of Sacsayhuaman and the gorgeous Sacred Valley of the Incas is ideal for acclimatization.
Once you have completed the inca trail hike and if a day can be squeezed in your itinerary, it is highly recommended to stay overnight in Aguas Calientes and return to Cusco on the fifth day - giving you more time to explore Machu Picchu and the surrounding area - hike the orchid trail, Huayna Picchu ascent or just wonder around.
My personal memories of this trip are still very alive and well. I would have to say it was one of the most memorable and amazing experiences of my life. I can still visualise the rugged mountains, the clean fresh air, the fittest sherpers one would find and the friendliest people on earth.

If you want to challenge yourself while experiencing an amazing and unique holiday, I highly reccomend incorporating this trek in your South American holiday and definitely visiting Peru.
Qantas fly direct from Sydney to Buenos Aires and you can then connect with Aerolineas or Lan Peru from there, a stopover in Buenos Aires is also reccommended. This is just one option, there are so many others.

Let us plan and book your South American Adventure holiday, you can contact one of our professional consultants who will help plan your itinerary to this amazing and unique part of the world!

South Africa with Kelly

2010 World Cup, Safaris and the BIG 5! Can you guess what these things all have in common -

SOUTH AFRICA!

On Monday June 21 with my bags packed and full of excitement I met my Africa Safari Co Representative and began my adventure with a 14 hour flight from Sydney to Johannesburg! Upon arrival and after collecting our luggage our small group of 7 were transferred to Peermont Metcourt Emperors Palace which is a new 3 star hotel and is conveniently located next to Tambo International Airport Johannesburg.
Our next stop for two nights was at Jatinga Country Lodge which is located on the outskirts of White River just outside of Nelspruit and is also located approx 38km from the world famous Kruger National Park. After our day of sightseeing, we were transferred to Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit for the World Cup soccer match between Australia and Serbia!
As a majority of my weekends are spent supporting and following our local soccer team, the opportunity to attend and watch a World Cup match was the best and most amazing experience ever! The atmosphere is ecstatic, the adrenaline just pumps through you and it’s just magical!

After departing Nelspruit we made our way to Hoyo Hoyo Tsonga Bush Lodge where we stayed for two nights. Hoyo Hoyo Tsonga Lodge is located in the Kruger National Park bordering the Northern Sabi Sands and Manyeleti Game Reserves, the lodge boasts a breath-taking blend of ethnic luxury, built in traditional tribal design.

Ten minutes drive from Hoyo Hoyo Lodge is Hamiltons Tented Camp and Imbali Safari Lodge, these three lodges are all apart of Kingfisher Resorts and all offer magnificent hospitality, exceptional service and gastronomic excellence ensuring an unforgettable African Safari experience. While on our safari at Kruger National Park, there are so many animals that you we saw on our game drives elephants, giraffes, antelope, zebra, lions, hippos along with many other species. However my most memorable spotting was two puff adders on the side of the road and a black rhino which is very rare.

Our last two nights’ we stayed on Sabi Sands Game Park Reserve at Kirkman’s Kamp. Kirkman’s Kamp has spectacular views of the unspoilt wilderness, overlooks the Sand River and has exceptional African wildlife and leopard sightings! We were very lucky to spot all the BIG 5 at this reserve which means yes we spotted a leopard in a tree! It was the most amazing and beautiful sighting ever, what made this even more spectacular was hyenas lying underneath the tree waiting for the leopard meal to drop to the ground. I will never forget it!

Whether it’s your first time to South Africa, or you have visited before I am sure that all your time spent there will be something you will remember for years to come, I had the most amazing experience and will never forget it! I can highly recommend travelling with Africa Safari Co. whether you’re interested in a self-drive holiday, a budget overland safari or maybe a deluxe lodge safari and unlimited game viewing opportunities, they will help you design your perfect safari and the holiday of a lifetime!

Montreal, Beverly Hills and Vegas

It has been awhile in between trips, so I hope you enjoy my new blog, that will hopefully tempt you.

The latter part of the year has been exceptionally busy at travel experience.com as we have seen a 35% increase in travel, particularly to the US and Canada. You can understand why, our dollar is strong, flights are cheap, amazing destinations to visit and they both have so much to offer the holiday maker.

I have always had a love and passion for these countries, so having the opportunity to visit again really put a smile on my face.

I travelled to Montreal, East Canada with Sherri, my first time to this part of the country and wow I just loved the ambiance of the quaint Province of Quebec, with its french influence, fascinating history, home of Cirque du Soleil, these were just some of my highlights, of course attending the 101st Rotary Convention, for the first time was also a wow factor!
What can I say exceptional guest speakers including Queen Noor of Jordan, Dolly Parton and a host of other amazing people who are doing so much in the Rotary world.

Montreal is a great city and boasts some amazing architecture, great restaurants and the best crepes in the world! I had a truly memorable experience topped with a well organised convention, great fellowship with over 17,500 Rotarians from around the globe and catching up with a friend who was an exchange student in Mareeba over 23 years ago. I absolutely loved it!

As a Vegas addict for so many reasons, I had the opportunity to stop in for a few nights prior to the convention. Great new hotel in Vegas called the ARIA, very classy and it boasts the new Cirque du soleil using music from non-other than the King of Rock n Roll himself Elvis Presley. I got to see Cher for a second time, she is still amazing and her show was outstanding. Shows are a must do in Vegas and if only stopping for a few nights I do recommend pre-booking before you go.

After the convention I was able to spend a few nights with my niece who has now moved to Beverly hills, always a different experience when you holiday with a local and from a locals perspective.

We shopped at some great department stores which were offering massive discounts, dined at some great restaurants, I particularly enjoyed brunch at Kings cafe on Robertson Boulevard, where I was able to take a sneak peek at some famous stars. My highlight, however, was being part of a live television audience for Jimmy Kimmel and meeting Tom Cruise!

If you are considering travelling to the US and Canada we will not only give you great airfares and accommodation packages, we have some hot tips, great restaurants that we recommend and non-touristy suggestions that will give you a more cultural local experience, we look forward to welcoming you!

Until next time stay safe, live, love and laugh.
cheers
Ida

Cowboys vs Storm Dairy Farmers Stadium Townsville

Recently I travelled to Townsville to attend a conference and it just happened to be the same weekend that the Cowboys played the Storm! I had never been to a game at the newly renovated stadium, you may be shocked thinking "what!"

Well you know what it's like when you have something in your own back yard you keep putting it off and saying "I will do it sometime soon" luckily, that weekend was the right time!

We stayed at the newly renovated Holiday Inn, the old sugar shaker, which is located right in the heart of Flinders mall and directly opposite the Cowboys leagues club, how convenient!

For only $10 you can purchase a return ticket on the city bus, which is located across the road from the leagues club. It will take you out to the stadium and back to the same spot directly after the game, how good is that! Oh! I must add that the trip back on the bus, is fun and very interesting. You must also have a drink at the Cowboys leagues club after the game the whole team call in for the presentation and supporters are welcome!

I was so impressed with not only the efficiency of the buses, location, prices, but the whole set up, is just so well organised, I was even happier when I got there and realised I could get a real drink at the bar.

The night was amazing! I can guarantee that you won't feel crowded or uncomfortable, we had grandstand seats, which we purchased at really good prices. The only disappointment about the night, was, that the Cowboys lost.

Not that it really mattered, as I was with great friends and we just had an exceptional night out.
The Holiday Inn have packages to all Cowboys matches and I have just been thinking about going down in July when the Cowboys take on the Broncos, that will be interesting especially as Geoff is a huge Broncos supporter.

Both Virgin and Qantas fly to Townsville and they have some competitive airfares as well, so if you don't like to tackle the 4 to 5 hour drive take a flight instead you will be there in 40 minutes.

Hire a car and enjoy Townsville it is quite a nice city to visit.
cheers
Ida

Dubai is located on the Eastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, in the south west corner of the Arabian Gulf. It is extremely well known for its warm hospitality and rich cultural heritage, and the Emirati people are welcoming and generous in their approach to visitors. With year-round sunshine, intriguing deserts, beautiful beaches, luxurious hotels and shopping malls, fascinating heritage attractions and a thriving business community, receives millions of leisure and business visitors each year from around the world. .
Nina and I recently escorted one of our niche small group tours to Dubai for the 2010 Dubai World Cup at the new Meydan Racetrack; wow what can I say they surely know how to throw a party. We flew Malaysian via Kuala Lumpur and while it’s not the quickest way to get to Dubai, it offered us a stopover in Kuala Lumpur on the way home and the flight cost was exceptional great value for money.

I do recommend if you are considering travelling to Dubai for an extended holiday, consider going January through to March, it is winter and the temperature is much cooler than summer.
Whether you like horse racing or not I also recommend holidaying during Dubai Cup Week, you will have the opportunity to experience something so amazing and so unique, that there is nothing quite like it anywhere in the world.

During our 7 night stay, our home was at the Layia Oak Hotel Apartments located in new Dubai, close to the Emirates mall, Palm Island and the Atlantis Hotel and water park.
You just have to experience a desert safari where you take in a 4wd tour on the desert sands you will try local cuisine, ride a camel and get a henna tattoo and even smoke Apple tobacco from a Sheisha.

Other highlights included, afternoon tea at the Burj and the Arabian Nights dinner hosted by HRH Sheik Mohammed Bin Rajesh Mahktoum, the evening also included half an hour of spectacular fireworks that filled the night sky.

This was definitely not my last trip to Dubai, it is a totally amazing city, I love the mix of Middle Eastern and Western culture, I loved the service and the amazing dining experiences and I know when I go there is always something new to see and do.

I will be heading back to the World Cup again in 2011, so if you are interested in coming you can register your interest by calling one of our team members at either Mareeba or Atherton!

India with Rotary

I recently had the opportunity to travel to Mumbai, India, on a Rotary project. The project had started in my year as President with the Mareeba Rotary club in 2008-2009, where the years theme was Make Dreams Real.

That year, ten Mareeba Rotarians ran in the great wheelbarrow race from Mareeba to Chillagoe whilst raising $4500 for the street kids in Mumbai. Through my connections with a friend, Nina, Sherri and I travelled to Mumbai to distribute the funds raised.

Mumbai, formerly called Bombay is the capital of the Indian state of Maharashtra, it is the most populous city in India and one of the most populous cities in the world with a population of approximately 21 million.
It’s known for its chaotic street scenes and the outdoor bazaars top the list of attractions, for the bargains and the people-watching. Popular waterfront destinations are Marine Drive, where you can go watch the sun set over the Arabian Sea, and the carnival-like Juhu Beach. More sightseeing options are the Gandhi Museum, in the leader's former home, the cave temples of Elephanta Island and the Gateway of India which was opened on December 4, 1924, to commemorate King George V and Queen Mary visit in December 1911. For tranquility, Mumbai has many religious sites, lakes and parks.
Yes, I saw poverty, pollution, dirty streets, people sleeping on the streets, hunger, beggars, no sewerage or clean water, but I also saw determined people helping and planning projects and trying to make a difference in the society in which they live.
As a tourist, I will also always remember the distinct smells, the architecture, the food, the kindness shown to me by complete strangers, the warm welcome we received from the children and their families, the vibrant colours, the ladies carriage on the train, the culture, the shopping, the transport, the cows, the elephants, the taxis oh and for certain the chocolate bomb dessert at the coffee shop.

I will always remember the friendships, the curries, the shopping and the chocolate bomb desserts, but most of all I will always, always remember the faces of the children we met!

Oh, how I LOVED it and yes It was an amazing experience in so many ways and one that will stay with me forever! The Golden Question would I go back? – DEFINITELY

Europe with Mannuela

Ever thought there must be more to life than just working? If so consider Europe as your next holiday destination, it’s packed full of things to see, do and you will absolutely love it!
My husband and I recently returned from our long awaited European holiday. We started our trip with a stopover in Dubai, with enough time to take in a city tour, desert safari, the Atlantis Hotel on the Jameriah Palm and the water slides at Aquaventure Park.
After our stopover we set off to visit 17 countries in 8 weeks, these included England, France, Switzerland, Monaco, Italy, Vatican City, Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Belgium, San Marino, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Ireland and Scotland. It seems as though we covered most of Europe and considering the amount of time we had, we really captured all the highlights of these countries and had some amazing experiences!
We spent the first 3 weeks on tour with Contiki and then we travelled independently through southern Italy taking in all the sights, we used local trains, and hired a car through Sicily. We then welcomed our Royal Caribbean- Mediterranean, 12 day cruise, it was a great way to relax and unwind after our hectic travels. After our cruise we flew to Ireland and Scotland to visit family and friends before our long flight home. I’d love to share all my experiences with you, so if you are thinking of travelling to Europe let me know and I can certainly put together a great itinerary for you.
As for my favourite places I would say that my favourite beach was Taormina in Sicily. Prague, London and Paris were definitely my favourite cities, with so much history and things to see and do. Switzerland was my favourite country and boasts landscaped mountains and scenery that just takes your breath away, and of course the best place to have a drink is at the the Temple Bar in Dublin.
Europe has so much to offer every traveler, if you have not been, put it on you’re to do list in 2010!

China

In China everything is different to what we are used to, you need a good sense of humour and adventure to accept history, culture and attitudes so unlike ours. You will certainly see sites and experience smells which you will not see in Australia so don’t be too surprised. Although China is booming and developing it still lacks some international standards of infrastructure, toilets can be very basic. I would highly recommend an escorted tour, Wendy Wu Tours employ English speaking guides and local guides at every city who are very professional, knowledgeable and helpful.
In November I was invited to attend the Wendy Wu Mega Famil alongside Agents from all over Australia and South Africa. We flew into Shanghai via Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific. Shanghai is a bustling, contemporary city with history, style and culture. There we saw the Yu Garden, Yuan Bazaar, Nanjing Road, (the world’s longest shopping street attracting 1 million visitors per day), Jin Mao Tower, China’s third tallest skyscraper. On the eastern side of Huangpu River, Pudong is full of skyscrapers and the financial hub of Shanghai. Shanghai is also the hometown of Jackie Chan and this year will host a world expo from May through to October. Before our flight to Xian we took the Maglev train to Pudong airport, the journey takes 7 minutes and 20 seconds to complete the distance of 30km, the train reached 431 km an hour ( I have the photo to prove it).
Xian is located on the banks of the Yellow River and has a history dating back to 1000BC, it was also the starting point of the Silk Road. Xian’s ancient city wall is the best persevered in all of China and has one of the largest military defensive systems in the world. One of the highlights of the trip was going to see the Terracotta Warriors and Horses, Emperor Qin Shi Huang’s tomb had an army to protect him in the afterlife. Thousands of workers worked for more than a decade to create the life sized army. Altogether over 7 000 pottery soldiers, horses, chariots and weapons have been unearthed from the pits.
As the saying goes “you have not been to China until you have climbed the Great Wall”. A must do when in Beijing, China’s capital, the panoramic views from the wall are amazing and then you imagine all the hard work that went into the construction of the wall. After the exhausting walk on a section of the 5000km wall, we visited the 2008 Olympic Stadium and Aquatic Centre.
China a must do on your travel list!

Vietnam with Nadine

Sin chow (hello from Vietnam)

With a visa stamped in my passport and a small light weight bag on my shoulder (no wheels)I joined the queue at Sydney International airport for a 8 hour flight with Singapore Airlines to Singapore and then 2hrs to Ho Chi Minh City (also known as Saigon) for a seven day adventure.

What an amazing place, the streets are filled with motor bikes all going in the same direction then they all of a sudden form their own lanes, stick their arms out to indicate then head off in another direction, with little children on high chairs, no helmets, women dressed elegantly in their high heels and business attire, their shopping strapped onto the back of their bikes, face masks on… just another day in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Cu Chi tunnels running for over 250km from Saigon to the Cambodian border, are simply unbelievable. Crawling through them on your hands and knee’s gave you a fell of what it was really like (breathtaking, claustrophobic, and frightening) but simply amazing, how small the Vietnamese people are and how clever they really were. From recycling the war equipment to help them fight back, innumerable trap doors, underground shelters, field hospitals, command centres and kitchens, this part of history needs to be experienced by all.

There is not better way to experience Vietnam than on a Cyclo, uncovering the back streets, hidden gems and fascinating sights.

We then headed off to Hoi An on a 1 hour flight with Vietnam Airlines. After spending some time visiting the local tailors and exploring the Chinese Embassy Halls, Old Houses we then took a 2 hour push bike ride into the countryside, spotting a farm of ducklings, water buffalo, rice paddies, local farming land where all the fresh herbs are grown.

For dinner that night we went to “Morning Glory” street food restaurant and cooking school for an experience I will never forget. I can’t boil and egg, but after a 2 hour cooking show I could make fresh spring rolls, Vietnamese Crispy Pancake with Dipping Sauce, green papaya salad and for main course barbequed chicken and lime leaves. This is a must to do when in Hoi An.

With a short 1 hour flight from Da Nang (Hoi An) to Hanoi with Vietnam Airlines we had an organised walking tour of the Old quarter, then a cyclo ride to the famous water puppet show.

After an overnight stay we then departed for a 4 hour drive to Halong Bay to board our private boat and cruise around the 3000 limestone islands rising from the emerald waters of the Bac Bo gulf and soak in the misty atmosphere of this world heritage site. With an overnight stay in the calm waters, sumptuous food, good wine, great company, what more could you ask for. It is one of the most magnificent scenic regions in Vietnam.

With around 85 million people living in Vietnam there was no shortage of markets, shops, food, museum’s, place to go and people to meet. The beer is cold, the food is fresh, the people are beautiful, the climate is comfortable and best of all the dong is great to the Aussie dollars, which means you can have an enjoyable meal including a few drinks for around $8.00 aud or $180,000 dong!!

I can’t wait for my next adventure!

Hen gup lie (see you later)
Nadine

South America with Mannuela

Buenos dias.

I was given the opportunity to travel to Peru and Chile with Scenic Tours this September. What an amazing destination! We started our adventure in Santiago where we took in a city tour and a visit to the Pre-Columbian museum. We also travelled to the Casablanca Valley to sample the fine Chilean wines and take in some of the local cuisine.

We continued our journey to Peru, where we took in the spectacular views over the Sacred Valley, we also enjoyed a private weaving demonstration by the women of Chinchero village. We visited the town of Ollyantambo and the Inca ruins, our journey continued to the Misinmay Village Community where, we were welcomed by the locals and their children to learn all about their lifestyle, this was truly a cultural experience I will never forget. I shopped my heart out at the Pisac Markets and purchased some of the locals handicrafts, shame, I didn’t have a bigger suitcase!

Our journey then took as aboard the Vistadome train to Machu Picchu. This was dream for me to visit Machu Picchu. WOW! It certainly lived up to my expectations. We enjoyed a guided tour through this historic lost city of the Incas. Standing in the middle of the tropical rainforest, Machu Picchu is the greatest urban creation of the Inca Empire.

I also visited the beautiful city of Cuzco and then travelled into the heart of the Andes, viewing glaciers, snow capped mountains and tiny villages on our way to Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca. We enjoyed an excursion to the remarkable floating islands. Built of layers of totora reeds home to the traditional Uros community. This was another cultural highlight for me.

Our final destination was Lima, we took in the sights of Peru’s capital city before beginning our jouney home. I would say this trip was by far one of my favourites so far and I recommend this destination to anyone. I can’t wait to go back.

The Scenery, Sights, the People and the Culture…. South America has it all! A must destination for all!

Vegas and LA and Alabama with Ida

Why do I love Vegas? I don't know? Words can't describe it, its the emotions that just run deep. I love losing myself in the glitz and glam of this truly fabulous oasis in the desert.

The excitement of its lights, the sin city history, the casinos, the shows, the buffets, the people, the shopping, the museums, the Johnnie blacks, the hundred dollar chips, the weddings, Elvis, oh and most of all the totally fabulously amazing Fremont Experience!

When you arrive you forget about everything and do whatever you want and no one seems to care, you are famous, you are real and you are alive!

Recently I travelled with a group of friends to the US, this is my 10th trip to LA and there is still something that I really love about this city, our experience this time was somewhat different we stayed in Orange County and it is truly beautiful, adding to the fact that my niece Tania lives there with her husband Gayle, we had more of a local experience which I totally enjoyed. Disney is always a hit and the drive to Hollywood and downtown was also a highlight. We managed to secure some tickets to the LA Lakers who played the Clippers at the brand new staples centre, definitely a must do in LA. I am not a huge fan of basketball but I loved soaking in the atmosphere and checking out one of my favourite actors bad boy Jack Nicholson and of course just being with a wonderful group of friends really made my night.

The road trip to Las Vegas was another treat, I love that drive, this time after a stop at the Barstow factory outlets we stopped at Peggy Sues diner and I must say the best collection of memorabilia that I have ever seen , definitely worth a road trip stop, great milk shakes too!

We arrived in Vegas at around 6pm just as it was getting dark and as we drove closer to the city you could see the city lights, the heart starts beating the excitement builds we start singing Viva Las Vegas, the girls are just in sheer heaven, I can almost taste it and then their it is, the drive up the famous Las Vegas Boulevard is just amazing and oh my God it was totally and utterly awesome. I close my eyes now and I can still see it. Luckily for the GPS we managed to find our way to the main entrance of our stay at the newly renovated Planet Hollywood.

Now, Planet Hollywood, I definitely loved! I have stayed at most of the casinos on the strip and even though there was a touch of the Aladdin seeping through the hotel, I loved the ambiance, boppy music and the atmosphere this casino offered, definitely funky and laid back!

I really never spent enough time in my room, however they were movie themed, clean and like most other rooms at casinos on the strip the rooms did not have enough lighting to my liking however and more importantly the beds were grand and for the time I spent in bed I always had a great nights sleep.

So many highlights on this trip, we celebrated Santo's 21st, my birthday, anniversaries and saw Bette Midler, Jersey Boys, Tony and Tina's wedding, Peepshows, Sky walk at the Grand Canyon with Scenic flights, Halloween, the Fremont experience, as many buffets as you can count, shopping at factory outlets, the New York New York roller coaster ride, the extras bar, Rain night club VIPs, restaurants and so much more.

I must say, however, our day dressed up in 80's outfits for the Graceland wedding chapel renewal of wedding vows for Bruce and Tania and Mary and Marcello, was definitely my favourite day. We hired a stretch hummer that drove us around for a couple of hours as we took in the sights of Vegas, definitely a must do when in Vegas. For me 9 nights was not enough and always sad to leave, however knowing that I will be back makes me feel better.

Like all of my trips to Vegas I just have to add in another stop this time Tuscaloosa, Alabama, another added highlight to my trip. Through my extended family we headed south to watch an amazing game of American Football, Alabama University Crimson Tide who played against Louisiana State University the tigers, now this was totally unbelievable, the night before the game we headed downtown and had drinks with locals who were just preparing for game day the atmosphere was electric and such passion and pride toward their local college football team, something like I have never seen before!

On game day we had an early morning start as we headed off to purchase our Alabama t-shirts, just so we could blend in with the crowd, we had a hot dog, a coke and waited patiently for the parade of champions, this is where fans gather out the front of the stadium to welcome and cheer on the Coach and team prior to the big game.

We then took our seats in the family section which was very very special and waited for kick off, while being entertained by a 100 piece marching band, cheerleaders and just hair raising atmosphere! We chanted roll tide roll, sang Sweet home Alabama, ate hot dogs and popcorn and just totally absorbed the experience.

I have a better understanding of the game now and I am hooked. Alabama won that day and are now heading toward the championships league for 2009. I just have this feeling it will be their year, this year, so proud of Eryk he had a great game and so deserves a win in his final year of college.

We farewelled Tuscaloosa and headed to the airport for our flight back to LA, American Airlines was impressive and we flew via Dallas airport. Dallas is usually a nightmare to transit in however with the new sky train it now makes transiting so much easier I was totally impressed.

We stopped in LA with my niece Tania for another night prior to our flight back home. I must thank Qantas for the Business Class upgrade on my trip, I guess after all those years of selling the product, I am so glad I can say it is my job to try it out, so I can then tell you all about it!

If you haven't flown business class you just have to try it, it makes your journey so much better and you arrive well rested and refreshed. Congratulations Qantas the service and experience was impeccable!

Well that was my holiday! Amazing huh! The memories of this trip will stay with me forever. I will always reflect on the perfect nights I had with my mates and just so many stories to share! Oh how I love a great holiday that includes amazing destinations!

You have just got to go! Our dollar is great at the moment, so it is a great time to be travelling, don't think about it just do it!

Love y'all

Ida

Who boasts Las Vegas as her favourite destination!

Italy with Lloyd

My trip only included Verona and Tuscany and car rental. Verona is a beautiful town with a great public transport system. Its main attraction is the Arena and its surroundings; Lake Garda is only an hour away by car and is well worth a visit.
We drove from Verona to San Gimignano via the Ferrari factory. The toll roads were my choice for the drive as it was much quicker.
Tuscany was in grape-picking season and all the vineyards had grapes on the vines. The colours and scenery were spectacular.
The hills with the villages perched on top were great for countryside photos. Our drive from Tuscany back to the Venice airport was very pleasant along the freeway and much easier than I expected. We hired a Lancia Delta, which is a 4-door sedan and it was worth the extra rental charge to upgrade to a bigger vehicle. Bella Italia; it is well worth a visit.
Cheers Lloyd

Bali with Nina

Bali, Indonesia. Truly paradise and a great place for relaxing, shopping and amazing cuisine.
My husband Nigel and I had the opportunity to go to Bali in August and visit some friends of ours that live at Sanur Beach. We flew to Denpesar with Jetstar ex Cairns via Darwin. One of my highlights, (surprise surprise), was shopping! I just loved bartering at the markets and had lots of fun doing this. I also booked in for a few body treatments while I was there - nothing beats a Balinese massage and or having a beauty treatment done. There is so much choice from the local salons to the more up-market spas.
While we were there, we also visited a very special bar which is, run by a New Zealander - it is truly worth a visit. It is called The Cavern Bar and is located in Sanur. It has a Beatles Museum and Memorabilia. I became a life-time member. All you have to do is pay your membership fee - you will then receive a free beer on your first visit - and that’s it you are a member for life.
We enjoyed our dining in Bali and, for only $10 Australian dollars at a local café, two of us had a meal and three local beers each - you just can’t beat that. We also had the opportunity to visit Kuta Beach. This was a real treat for me as a Norwegian who had never seen surfers in action before.
Travel tip for visiting Bali; have some US dollars in cash on arrival to pay for your tourist visa. Being an agent for Travelex, we can exchange cash for you. The visa is USD 10.00 for up to seven days and USD 25.00 for 8-28 days and I also recommend that you give yourself at least three hours when departing from the Denpesar International terminal. There are long queues and you need to pay departure tax, which is 150,000 Rupiah or USD 15.00, and clear immigration, which can be a very slow exercise. If you haven’t been to Bali, its time you visited it. I absolutely loved it!
Cheers Nina

Thailand with Peter

Thailand with Peter
In August, I was lucky enough to escort a small group to Thailand. We flew via Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific and had three days exploring this exciting City. Some highlights included shopping on Nathan Road and a day trip to Macau.
We then flew to Bangkok and several of my clients got suits made from the local tailors, ordered new glasses and we enjoyed a day trip to the River Kwai and Tiger Temple. We headed north up to Chiang Rai and stayed on the border of Thailand, Myanmar (Burma) and Laos. We had an absolutely beautiful hotel on the banks of the river, very quiet and relaxing.
Elephant Trekking was a “Must Do”, but after two and a half hours of mountain climbing on an Elephant, I have to say that I could not wait to get off!
We then overlanded through the beautiful Thai countryside to Chiang Mai and indulged in the local markets. After a few days of relaxation, we flew direct to Phuket. We had a blast, staying at Karin Beach, which is a lot quieter than Legian, but still only fifteen Minutes away by Tuk Tuk, if you wanted to hit the action.
We had eight days of relaxation - the beach was beautiful, the surf was up, massages every day, great food, great prices and day trips by speedboat out to the islands, including Phi Phi Island.
The highlight for me of the trip for me was meeting the Thai people. I set off on my first group tour to the big smoke of Darwin. I found it to be a great little city with lots of things to do and see. I had a group of ten people. The first night we headed down to the Harbour and had a Sunset Harbour Dinner Cruise. I have never experienced anything like it before; it was fantastic. We have never been so relaxed. We experienced a fantastic four-course meal while watching the magnificent sunset. A must-do in Darwin for anyone travelling.
We had a full day of sightseeing from all the WWII bombing sites to the Military, Art & Aviation Museums.
You cannot go to Darwin without seeing one of the many markets they have to offer. We all headed down to Mindle Beach Sunset Markets and there was every food imaginable.
Then we headed off to Katherine Gorge and Edith Falls (my favourite) and then to Kakadu National Park and some of us went to see the Jumping Crocodiles. It was a great trip enjoyed by all.
Cheers Sherri

Africa

Africa, what an amazing continent! It was a fantastic show, held at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
Sometimes, people get a bit apprehensive about travelling with children and, don’t worry, I used to think the same, but if you plan it right you won’t have any problems. Here are just a few tips based on what I have experienced:
Q
Firstly, if you are travelling by plane make sure you don’t book the early flights. Try and get the flights around midday to ensure the kids have had a good nights sleep, have had breakfast and are ready for their big day. Make sure you take colouring books and pencils, computer games, toys, etc with you so the children have something to do, otherwise it is going to be a very long trip.
Q
Secondly, try the public transport system if possible during your stay. From the airport, we took the train into the city and the kids loved it. They were so excited and it kept them occupied the whole way. The trip took about 25 minutes and the kids travelled free. So that was even better. One tip: if you are travelling to Brisbane and there is a group of you (more than 2 adults) then it is cheaper to go by maxi-taxi than taking the train.
Q
Make sure when you are planning your days that they are not jam-packed with activities. Try and do only 1 or 2 activities per day. Children don’t like to be rushed and they get tired easily.
Q
Make sure when you are planning your activities they are full of fun….Children get bored very quickly and, the more fun it is the better it is, for you.
Q
Eating out can be expensive and especially if you don’t want Hungry Jacks every meal. If you are going to a restaurant, ask if they have children's meals and, if so, only order one between two children (only if they are not big eaters). Don’t be afraid to ask them to throw in some ice cream or drinks.
Q
Include the children in everything you are doing, from pulling your luggage to pretending to read the maps and so on. They love being included.
My trip was fantastic. Only three days but three wonderful days with my family and nothing is more important than spending quality family time together, since our lives are so busy these days.
We at Travel Experience.com can help you with all your travel needs and give you the best advice on some great family holiday destinations. When you get right away from your daily mundane routine and get right back into nature, your mind and body start doing amazing things. Your body starts to tingle with excitement and once the endorphins kick in you know that you can do almost anything you put your mind to. To me it is the best way to rejuvenate both physically and mentally. Each day you find renewed energy and your body starts to respond. By the end of the track you feel like a new person. The beauty about our trip is that we will not be roughing it. Each night we will be accommodated in comfortable beds, we will be able to have hot showers and we will also be spoilt by superb 3-course dinners. If you enjoy the odd wine, you will be pleased to know that it is also available. How great is that? Another bonus is that, because we are hiking during the days, it is virtually impossible to put on weight - regardless of how much we indulge at night - and more than likely our clothes will feel much looser by the end of the week.
I personally have done many hiking trips - mainly in Europe - and I am really craving for that amazing feeling you experience, when you are submerged into Nature. The Milford Track takes you past soaring peaks, wild rivers, enchanting forests and amazing valleys. The scenery promises to be breathtaking and magnificent and I can’t wait to experiment with my new camera. To me, it will not be a race, but rather a magical journey of discovery of new and interesting views, vegetation and wildlife.
We already have a great group of fun-loving people joining Nina and myself, so if you are keen to do something a bit different and are ready for the experience of a lifetime - give me a call. We still have a few spaces left and I look forward to sharing a week with you - that I promise you will never forget.

Argentina with Ida

Arriving in Buenos Aires was like jumping aboard a moving train. As I looked out the window of the car I was travelling in, a blurred mosaic of drab apartment blocks and haphazard architecture whizzed by as we drove along the freeway toward the center of town. Our driver Sergio who was a friend of a friend and had offered to pick us up tried to communicate in his broken English and I was doing the same – finally he merges off the freeway.
Then the real city appears, the cafés, the purple jacaranda flowers draped over the sidewalks, stylish porteños (residents of Buenos Aires) walking past the newspaper stands and candy kiosks and handsome early-20th-century stone facades.
When you mention the word ‘Argentina,’ it’s quickly apparent why the country has long held travelers in awe: tango, Patagonia, beef, soccer, Tierra del Fuego, passion, the Mendoza wine country and then you stay with the locals and you discover there is more soul-stirring places to visit, like the Parque Nacional Iguazu in the country's subtropical north, to the thunderous Perito Moreno Glacier in the south, Argentina's natural attractions are the stuff travelers' dreams are made of.
This was my third trip to Argentina and I was travelling with my sister Maria, we were spending a few days in the city before heading out to stay with our relatives in Jose C Paz. We were going to meet them for the very first time so I was both anxious and excited.

On arrival we stayed in a hostel in San Telmo, the place was very reasonably priced, clean, inviting and in an exceptional location, whilst our time in the city, we spent some time with the Harwood’s and had the pleasure of discovering this amazing city with them, we went to La Boca, the cemetery near Recoletta which is like a city in itself and a must do, fantastic markets, museums, and not to mention the exquisite food.

I admit though one of the many highlight’s of my trip, was going to a soccer game we saw Boca play River Plate – they are 2 top sides in the league, the passion the Argentines have for the game is truly amazing and the experience will stay with me forever. I can still hear the chanting Boca Boca Boca!.

What an amazing and wonderful experience I had, I must thank Qantas for the premium economy upgrade as this made our trip much more comfortable. Premium economy is the old business class seats and sell at half the price, these seats are available on selected Qantas routes. Argentina is certainly up there on my “places I’m in love with” list and will definitely revisit.

About us

We at travel experience.com.au pride ourselves on product knowledge, destinations visited and have over 100 years combined travel experience around this wonderful world that has so much to offer each and every individual.

Our teams have covered the world and they can give you firsthand knowledge on the people, the destinations, the history, the food, the restaurants, the tipping, the public transport, the language and more importantly we will get you there in the most direct and most affordable way.
